KW Legacy’s 10th annual Golf for Scholarships tournament collected $125,000 at Conestoga
Golf and Country Club recently to surpass more than $1 million raised since the charity was
founded a decade ago.
More than 220 golfers and volunteers attended the event last Saturday to raise funds to help
local high school students pursue post-secondary education. KW Legacy, founded by a group of
local friends looking to make a difference in the Waterloo Region community, has awarded
more than 100 scholarships of a minimum of $5,000 each over the last 10 years to deserving
students looking to extend their education.
“Our goal has been to give back to our community by focusing our scholarships on students
who need the help, who are providing incredible leadership to their community,” said Mike
Denomme, one of the co-founders of KW Legacy that raises funds and distributes the funds to
support deserving local students.
KW Legacy also runs the Top Home Chef fundraiser in May. This event has raised more than
$200,000 to date for Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council.
Ten recent Golf for Scholarship winners attended the event to celebrate the $1 million
milestone and local dignitaries, including WRDSB Associate Director Bill Lemon, were on hand
to mark the occasion.
Denomme thanked the incredible sponsors who have backed their purpose in investing in the
community and future community leaders. That includes representatives of Saint Mary’s
University, who handed out a $50,000 Sobeys scholarship to a local student in the spring.
“This year we hit our $1 million goal,” said Denomme. “We are very proud and grateful for our
deeply loyal sponsors and their support.
“We could not have reached our goals without their partnerships.”
Students, or their families, looking for more information about the KW Legacy scholarship
program can find it at kwlegacy.ca or by contacting their school guidance department for
